winter chunky tomato soup with bacon

1 onion, chopped
1 carrot, chopped
2 garlic cloves
3 celery sticks, chopped
2 kg ripe tomatoes, chopped
1 package of bacon, chopped and fried
1 litre vegetable stock
pinch of sugar
olive oil
chopped fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Sauté onion, carrot, celery and garlic in oil over low heat until soft. Add bacon then chopped tomatoes, vegetable stock, sugar, pepper to taste. Simmer for 30 minutes.
